Stuart A. Burkhalter
Stuart Burkhalter practices complex commercial litigation. He has experience in both state and federal court, as well as private arbitration, on a range of different matters, including commercial contract disputes, parent-company liability matters, residential and commercial real estate disputes, employment and non-compete issues, as well as managed care and False Claims Act litigation. Stuart has represented clients in a number of different industries, including healthcare, real estate, non-profit, franchising, and entertainment.
Among other things, Stuart has facilitated a favorable settlement in a multi-million dollar commercial real estate dispute for individual and corporate defendants. He has also secured favorable awards in a number of private arbitration proceedings representing hospitals in connection with claim reimbursement disputes. He has also achieved dismissals of numerous lawsuits across the country against Tennessee parent companies for lack of personal jurisdiction.
Stuart was named in Mid-South Super Lawyers as a Rising Start (2016-2017).
Stuart graduated from Vanderbilt Law School in 2010 where he was a member of the Order of the Coif and received the John A. Cortner Award for winning the Vanderbilt Intramural Moot Court Competition. Stuart graduated with distinction from the University of Virginia in 2003 with a double major in English and Media Studies.
Prior to attending law school, Stuart lived and worked in Washington, D.C. and New York City during which time he wrote, co-edited, and co-produced an award-winning 32-minute short film. In 2014, Stuart published a book, Catawampus: The Fertility Process from a Man's Perspective, which, among other things, was named a Finalist in Foreword Reviews' INDIEFAB Book of the Year Awards: Autobiography & Memoir.
Stuart currently serves on the Board of Directors of First Steps, Inc.
